CRPC Range Guide
As a new (or renewal member) of the Clatskanie Rifle & Pistol Club, one of the benefits you receive is the use of Club range facilities. Please take a few moments to read this important publication; it contains information that will help make your visit to the range safer and more enjoyable.
Compliance with our range rules, regulations and policies is a condition of membership.
The Range Complex is located at 74223 Conyers Creek Road, Clatskanie, Oregon:

The Range Complex has three firing areas—two current, one future:
OUTDOOR RIFLE & PISTOL RANGE—operational for members and guests, training and competitive events.
PISTOL BAYS— for members, training and competitive events— used only by reservation.
INDOOR RANGE (Future) - for members and training/competitive events.
TO CHECK OUTDOOR RANGE STATUS you can look at the CRPC website at www.clatskaniegunclub.com. This site has the most current information on range reservations for training, competitive and private events, plus closures for maintenance and construction. Range status and scheduled events are posted on the home page of this site. YOU CAN ALSO CALL OUR INFORMATION/MESSAGE LINE AT (503)395-2668 for range information. This number
is not attended and is for leaving a voicemail or listening to recorded status messages.
RANGE OPERATING HOURS are 8AM (or sunup, whichever is later) until 4PM (or dusk, whichever is sooner). THE RANGE IS OPEN MONDAY-FRIDAY FOR MEMBERS ONLY AND THEIR INVITED GUESTS; the range is open to the public on MOST weekends 8am-4pm and typically manned by volunteer Range Attendants. Matches, training events or construction may limit/prohibit access to the range (or portions of the range) for safety reasons. On weekends if the gate is locked, there is no range attendant on duty and nonmembers are responsible to follow the Conditions of Use and by their presence consent to the CRPC Standard Liability Release.
There may be occasional closures to facilitate construction and maintenance; these closures can be on very short notice. Signs at the range will indicate if the facility is available for shooting on any given day. IF THE SIGN SAYS RANGE CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION OR MAINTENANCE THAT MEANS NO SHOOTING!
WHEN YOU USE CRPC RANGE FACILITIES, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. ALL VISITORS WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN A LIABILITY RELEASE PRIOR TO USING THE RANGE—THIS INCLUDES BOTH DIRECT PARTICIPATION IN SHOOTING EVENTS AND ATTENDANCE AS A GUEST/OBSERVER; THIS IS A CONDITION OF USE/ADMITTANCE TO CLUB PROPERTY FOR EVENTS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE TRAINING/SOCIAL EVENTS.
Members are required to sign an Annual Liability Release as part of their membership, and to provide a signed liability release for all guests. Spouses and children of members may be declared on the Annual Liability Release (part of the Membership Application) form. The daily release forms and sign-in sheets are located in a 3-ring binder in the Duty Box at the end of the shooting shack (the combination is on the back of your membership card). Guests must read the range rules before they can shoot, observe or otherwise participate in activities at this facility.
Please wear protective equipment when shooting—your sight and hearing are important to all of us!
Everyone at the firing line needs to communicate and agree when it is safe to go downrange; some folks may change
targets more often than you—let’s make sure everyone talks and knows when it’s safe to go forward of the firing
line.
When people are downrange, do not handle any firearms—this includes taking rifles and pistols on and off the benches! Firearms must have their actions open and all ammunition and magazines need to be removed from the firearms before people may move forward of the firing line.
There will be no trap, skeet or sporting clays shooting at the range, or any other aerial targets used. The consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited while the range is in operation.
Any close-range use of shotguns must be on a shooter-supplied backboard or other Rangemaster-approved target, not mounted or anchored to any club target or support, and must be composed of frangible material (wood or cardboard).
You are responsible for cleaning up your targets and removing materials from the backboards when you finish a range session; this includes picking up brass, live rounds and other material brought to the range. Spent brass needs to be placed in the brass bucket, NOT SWEPT FORWARD ONTO THE GRAVEL, as this poses a safety hazard for other competitive and training activities.
ONLY PAPER OR CARDBOARD TARGETS (or metallic targets approved by the Rangemaster and engaged at a minimum of 10 yards for pistols and 50 yards for rifles) are allowed at the range; pop cans, painted rocks, car tires, firewood, etc. ARE NOT PERMITTED. After you finish shooting you must remove your targets and dispose of them properly.
INCENDIARY, TRACER ROUNDS, FIREWORKS AND EXPLOSIVE OR PYROTECHNIC DEVICES are prohibited on CRPC ranges unless specifically approved by the Rangemaster.
There is NO NIGHT SHOOTING AT THE OUTDOOR RANGE unless scheduled with the Rangemaster.
You are required to have pets leashed/controlled at the range when it is in operation. Children need to have appropriate protective equipment and be under the direct supervision of their parents/adult guardians AT ALL TIMES.
DO NOT CLIMB ON ANY BERMS OR SLOPES FOR ANY REASON; THE AREA BEHIND THE PROTECTIVE BERMS IS OFFLIMITS.

EVERY MEMBER IS REQUESTED TO SERVE WEEKEND DUTY. This valuable service by members allows us to open the range to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, 8A-4P, provided a scheduled competitive event, maintenance or construction has not closed off the range. Weekend Duty is assigned in 4-hour shifts. The Weekend Duty Roster is posted on www.clatskaniegunclub.com.
Weekend duty is assigned in 4-hour shifts (Saturday or Sunday morning or afternoon).
• No special training is necessary at this time to serve weekend duty—a club member presiding over the range is usually enough to deter shooters from lapses of good behavior.
• Review the range & safety rules at the beginning of your shift and ensure shooters comply with them, especially as they clear the line to change targets.
• The weekend duty officer should open the gate, get the weekend duty book out of the lockbox (the combination is on the back of your membership card), sign the daily log form and have non-members read and sign the log/liability release. The duty box also contains ear plugs and a first aid kit.
• At the end of your shift please advise the next weekend duty person of any problems or concerns.
• If your relief does not arrive and a club member is not present that will assume the responsibility of duty officer please asl all non-members to park on Conyers Creek Road and lock the gate.
• In the event of an emergency or problem, please notify 911 and the Rangemaster, as necessary.
Some people cannot serve weekend duty due to work or preplanned obligations; this is understandable. There are other things a member can do for the club that have value such as mowing, weedeating or other maintenance on the range. This can be accomplished during the week or (in the summer) after the range closes. Please contact the Rangemaster if you would like to discuss this alternative service to your club.
